Molly is one of the cutest little miniature donkeys you are ever going to come across. She also happens to be one of the most fearful little miniature donkeys too. Why is she this way? What has caused her fear? This, we do not know. What we do know, is that Molly was used for breeding purposes, and for this, she may have been “just a number” in a breeding farm and never known much handling of people.
Molly is scared and suspicious of everything. She has come a long way in the nine months that she has lived in our barn…no longer automatically trying to kick out at people, or the other mini’s, however, she has a very long road ahead of her.
Patience is the name of the game with Molly. She is willing to let you into her life if you will take the time to do so. There have been times, where I have sat on a chair in her stall and done nothing at all other than read a book. Anything we can do to help Molly understand that a person is a good thing – at ALL times, then, she will let her guard down.
The time that you spend with Molly, petting her neck, rubbing her eyes and talking to her, will pay off. You may not realize it at the time, but, the trust process is happening.
